Focus on China-Europe Rail Freight
Faster than ocean freight and cheaper than air freight: rail freight is a viable third option of shipping mode between China and Europe and is becoming more and more attractive. Further strengthening our rail freight capabilities, we have added new routes and appointed a new Manager Rail Product and Intermodal Europe.
In 2016, Kerry Logistics was the market pioneer to complete the first westbound charter freight from Yiwu, Eastern China, to Madrid, Spain. This year, we continued to deepen our rail and road freight capabilities. In June, we launched new cross-border rail and trucking solutions from Mainland China through Kazakhstan to the Caucasus and Turkey. The new services provide greater flexibility to customers with different volume needs by block train, single wagon, or Full-Truck-Load.
Today, our network spans from the Greater China region, across ASEAN, the Middle East, and CIS to Europe, serving destinations in the UK, Germany, Poland, the Netherlands, Italy, and Spain.
To strengthen our rail freight capabilities on the European side, Maciej Cetnerowski joined us as Manager Rail Product and Intermodal Europe. Maciej closely collaborates with local rail and road freight teams across our network to create synergies, develop new services, shorten transit times, and continuously optimise the service level of our rail freight product.
By constructing an integral multimodal freight chain, our experts offer a one-stop solution from origin to destination with optimal efficiency and speed – internationally, regionally, and domestically. Specialised teams provide economical, viable cross-border rail freight services including Less than Container Load (LCL) and Full Container Load (FCL) options as well as multimodal and buyers’ consolidation solutions.
Our experts manage your entire supply chain from start to finish: from shipment pick-up, customs clearance and on-carriage to final destination. Frequent departures ensure a reliable service and schedule integrity for your shipments, including a comprehensive range of upstream services such as consolidation, storage, quality control, labelling, and assembly.
Convenient pace, lower emission
Rail freight is well suited for nearly all kinds of commodities: consumer goods, fashion & lifestyle, electronics & technology, or industrial machinery and equipment, to name only a few. Transit times of rail freight are up to 21 days shorter compared to sea freight. This makes it particularly attractive to shippers who must meet a strict sales window and who are located a long way from the Chinese coast.
Compared to air freight, this mode of transport is up to six times cheaper, while producing a carbon footprint that is up to 90 per cent lower.
